The company was founded by pharmacist János Kabay in 1927 to produce morphine from green poppy seeds. The patent of the factory founder still forms the basis for the industrial production of morphine throughout the world.

The main activity of ALKALOIDA Chemical Factory Ltd. is the production and sale of active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates, and finished medicines on both the domestic and foreign markets. The joint-stock company is a recognized manufacturer of alkaloid derivatives and psychotropic compounds in Hungary and one of the few companies in the world that deals with the production of such substances.

Our most important active ingredients: Codeine Phosphate Hemihydrate, Dihydrocodeine Bitartrate, Pholcodine, Ethylmorphine HCl, Oxycodone HCl, Morphine Sulfate, Phenobarbital acid and sodium. Our product range includes drugs that act on the cardiovascular system, drugs that act on the central nervous system, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and antitussives.

Since 2005, ALKALOIDA has been a member of the SUN Pharma Group.
